Be Ye Holy

Shalom saints ! I don’t want to keep us long. Yah willing today we’ll talk about holiness.

Yom Kippur is known as the holiest day among the Jews, I don’t think the Scriptures say that, but just like all the set apart days, it is holy.

We know how to relate Yahshua to the Passover right?

He died on first day of Unleavened Bread, and He rose from the dead on the day of First Fruits. We can see how Yahshua fulfills the Passover.

His blood is shed for us and we enter into a relationship with Yahshua.

But what really links Yahshua to Passover is that during Passover He mentions the blood of the covenant, right? He said, and the cup likewise, after having supped, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is being poured out for you. (Luke 22:20 BLB)

Holy Spirit help me show relation to Passover

But, what about Atonement. How did Yahshua’s death on the cross fulfill the sacrifices on Atonement? What’s the link to Atonement?

Holy Spirit help me…

Being on the cross from 9am and dying around 3pm, the times of the morning and evening sacrifice, makes him the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. That sacrifice was fulfilled.

But, what about Atonement? How does His death fulfill Atonement?

Remember the curtain in the temple...

When the temple was established in Jerusalem by King Solomon, the Mercy Seat could only be seen on the Day of Atonement.

That happened right around the time Yahshua breathed His last.

(Now Moses entered the Holy of Holies regularly to speak to Yahweh. But after Moses and after the Temple was established in Jerusalem, only the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies once a year to offer for the atonement of his sins and the sins of the nation.)

But on the day Yahshua died, the veil or curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom exposing the Mercy Seat. The Mercy Seat could only be exposed, and only by the High Priest, on the Day of Atonement.

Matthew 27:50-51 And Yahshua cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. 51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.

Yahweh commands us to be holy. But what is holiness? How do you define it?

Well, holy means set apart as in set apart, dedicated to righteousness. Only Yahweh is holy. Only Yahweh is holy.

Holiness comes only from Him.

Moses, take off your sandals, holy ground. Because Yahweh was there. Yahweh made the ground holy.

Exodus 3:5 Then He [Yahweh] said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.”

Why is the ground holy? Because Yahweh was there. Yahweh’s presence made it holy.

Zechariah 8:3 Thus says Yahweh: I have returned to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem shall be called the faithful city [or City of Truth or City of Faithfulness], and the mountain of Yahweh of hosts, the holy mountain.

...called holy mountain because Yahweh dwells there...

We who are believers are holy because Yahweh dwells in us...

What is holiness? How do you describe it...

The fruit of the Spirit...attributes or pointers…

Galatians 5:22 – 23 But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

These are pointers to holiness…can one be unholy and show patience…

One word that encompasses all holiness…

Holiness is Christlikeness....The image of Elohim is personified in Yahshua...We can’t be like Yahweh, but we can be like Yahshua...the personification of Yahweh...

The image of the invisible Elohim

If we act like Yahshua, then we are holy...

Fruit of Spirit...gentleness, love...love for Yahweh, for your neighbor, for your enemy... gentleness, patience...

Now, knowledge is not holiness...knowing a lot of Scripture does not make one holy...

1 Corinthians 8: 1 – 3 (NKJV) Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up [makes one arrogant], but love edifies [builds up]. 2 And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know. 3 But if anyone loves Elohim, this one is known by Him.

Love builds up...

We become like what we worship...

Psalm 115:8 (ESV) Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them.

Let us be like Yahshua...

We worship Yahweh and thank Him for His mercy but, we fail to show mercy to others, we fail to show kindness and gentleness to others, love your enemies

Holiness can be seen and felt among the saints, the Spirit bears witness...

As we approach the Day of Atonement, let us be holy. Let us like Yahshua,

Now, what is the complete verse? Be Ye Holy is incomplete. What’s the complete verse?

1 Peter 1:16 (KJV) Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Leviticus 19:2 (ESV) Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.

Be Ye Holy for Yahweh is Holy.

As the Day of Atonement approaches, Yahweh is commanding us to do one thing

Leviticus 20:7 Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, for I am Yahweh your Elohim.
